News & Info
Bill & Sue Catlett
Our treasured members Bill & Sue Catlett will be leaving us next week to move to Wisconsin. While this is surely an occasion of joy for them, as they move into the next chapter of their lives, it is hard for us to see them go. Please join us Sunday, July 2 for worship at 9:30 am and a celebration of their ministry and friendship immediately following the service.
Join our Summer Intergenerational Pickup Choir at SJOTM. Beginning June 25th and continuing through Labor Day weekend, all people of the parish - kids and adults - are invited to help lead worship this summer by singing in the choir. Meet at 8:45 am in the Choir Room to learn a simple anthem and hymns for the day. Come once, or often. All are welcome.
Tend the Giving Garden
It is our week to tend the Giving Garden starting on Saturday, June 24th. Scheduled meetings are at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday, and 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday and 9.30 a.m. on Friday. But volunteers can go at any time. You will find instructions for what to do in the shed. It's mostly weeding! On Wednesday and Friday we will pick the crops that are ready and deliver them to the food banks. Please come on over and help. Email Hilary if you need more information.
Childcare at SJOTM
Childcare during worship will not be available during the summer months beginning June 25. Child care will resume on September 10th.
Summer Sunday Service Schedule, June 25
The summer Sunday Service schedule will begin on June 25th. All are welcome to join us at 9:30 am in the church for Holy Eucharist Rite II with music. Weather permitting, we will have Lemonade Hour outside in the front courtyard.
Summer Office Hours
Beginning June 26th, the office hours will be Monday - Thursday 9 am - 1 pm.
Beginning Sunday, June 25th there will be a Lemonade Hour, immediately following the 9:30 am service. Hosts are needed. It's easy; all you need to bring is a small treat as the lemonade is provided by the church. A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board outside of Parish Hall. Weather permitting, Lemonade Hour will take place outside in the front courtyard.
Please consider joining this important ministry. Greeting people, distributing bulletins, conveying the sacred elements to the altar, and inviting parishioners to partake of Communion are central to our worship services. No experience needed. To sign-up or for more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 907-766-2282.
2017 Dates for Holy Baptism
We baptize primarily on those dates set aside for baptism, as listed in the Book of Common Prayer. Since the presence of the community of faith is essential for welcoming the newly baptized into the church, baptisms take place in the principal service on the appointed Sunday. The next dates for Baptism are:
•Sunday, November 5th at 10 am
Questions about baptism? Please contact Mo. Susan at email@example.com.
If you haven't already done so, please return your 2017 Pledge Card ASAP, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year. Extra pledge cards can be found on the web in the narthex or call the office 908-766-2282 to have one sent to you.
Altar Flower Request Sign up Available now
St. John on the Mountain continues the tradition of having fresh flowers on the altars. The arrangements enhance the sanctuary and are shared afterwards with the sick or divided to use again the following week in the chapel. Donations of flowers are made as memorials or in thanksgiving for special occasions. A date can be shared by more than one donor. The 2016 flower sign-up charts are now posted on the bulletin board in the hallway of the church building, opposite the entrance to the Chapel sacristy. For dedications and specific floral requests contact Sue Kennedy at firstname.lastname@example.org or the office 908-766-2282 email@example.com. The cost is $100 for church altar flowers and $70 for chapel altar flowers.
Please return your 2017 Pledge Card, as the Vestry needs them to make their budget decisions for the upcoming year. Extra Pledge Cards can be found in the narthex or call the office 908-766-2282 to have one sent to you. If you have any questions about Stewardship, please contact Chip Baird or Melissa Sharron.
Don't forget that you can donate your Stocks to SJOTM. The tax advantages of giving stock, instead of cash, to church can make doing so very worthwhile. We would be happy to accept stock donations for 2016 as form of pledge payment. To learn more, please contact Lisa Keenan in the office at 908-766-2282 ext 13.
Confirmation Class Sundays at 9 am
We are excited to begin confirmation preparation with a fantastic group of young people in grades 7-8! Confirmation Class is on Sundays at 9 am, and will meet weekly in the the Parish House Meeting Room. Your daughter or son is welcomed and encouraged to participate in this program, even if she or he is uncertain about confirmation at this time. It’s normal and healthy to struggle with belief, and we welcome doubters! For more information or to learn more about the class, please contact Mother Susan or Lynn Mitchell.
All Sunday School children (Pre-K – 6th Grade) should meet in the chapel at 10 am. After a welcome, song, and prayer, students will move on to their classrooms. If you have never filled out a Sunday school registration form for your children, please consider doing so. You can find a form in the Children’s Library.
Coffee Hour Hosts 2016-2017
Watch in the mail for the 2016-17 Coffee Hour Host schedule. In an effort to involve all families, Coffee Hour will be assigned to each family one time between the months of September 2015 and June 2016. If you can’t make the Sunday that you’re assigned, we kindly ask that you swap with another family. Preparations are minimal and implementation is easy. We all love Coffee Hour and this vital part of Fellowship. By having everyone involved, we can all be a positive force for St. Johns! If you have any questions, please email the coordinator, Paul Zanardi
Children ages 10 and older (or in the 5th grade) are welcome to become Acolytes, where they will serve at the 10 am Sunday services and other festival services.
